Billy Anderson has become the new Managing Director at Real Radio in Scotland.
Billy replaces Shaun Bowron, who will now focus on his role as Group Operations Director for parent company Guardian Media Group Radio.
An experienced player in the Scottish media market, Billy takes over the reigns at Scotland’s biggest commercial radio station with immediate effect.
He joined Real Radio from The Drum magazine as Sales Director at the station’s launch two and a half years ago and was promoted to Assistant Managing Director in January this year. As MD Billy will oversee a team of almost 50 staff and takes on the role at arguably the most exciting time in the 30-year history of Scottish commercial radio.
“This is a fantastic opportunity and I relish the challenge of working with our dedicated team to continue to grow this station’s audience and revenues. On air the station’s sounding great and our policy of clutter free advertising pays huge rewards as far as our commercial partners are concerned. But I’m not complacent and will be striving to ensure we retain our market leading position across Central Scotland.”
Shaun Bowron, who joined Real Radio at its launch, had held the dual role of MD in Scotland and Group Operations Director for GMG Radio’s five regional stations across the UK for a year. He will now focus completely on his group role as the division continues to grow.
Shaun Bowron said: ?I am delighted with Billy’s appointment. He has worked extremely hard since our launch in 2002 and his enthusiasm for people development and team building together with his leadership skills, will help take Real Radio in Scotland to even greater heights.?
