Durham FM – second successful application for TLRC, says Wheatly

Durham FM, a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Local Radio Company has won the licence for the city of Durham, Chester le Street, Spennymoor and Bishop Auckland.

To be called Durham FM, the licence was won against competition from two other groups. The Durham licence fits between TLRC’s stations Sun FM in Sunderland and Alpha FM in Darlington.

Richard Wheatly, Chief Executive of The Local Radio Company plc, said:

‘This is another significant boost to The Local Radio Company. It is our second successful application and we are delighted that our work in the region has been rewarded.

‘Our strategy is to build and develop a strong network of local radio stations across the UK, creating a powerful second tier radio group. This award will build on the strength of our existing stations in the region.

‘We will continue to grow organically, through licence applications and acquisition.’
