John Myers to join GMG Board

Whilst speculation about GMG Plc selling off assets including their radio division are doing the rounds, GMG today announced that it has appointed John Myers, Chief Executive of GMG Radio Holdings, to serve as an executive director on the main GMG Board.

Mr Paul Myners, Chairman of GMG said: “I am delighted that John has accepted the invitation to join the main Board of GMG. He has created real value for the Group in building our radio operations over the last six years and I look forward to his wider contribution to the deliberations of the Board.”

Sir Robert Phillis, Chief Executive of GMG plc, said today: “This appointment to the GMG Board demonstrates and reinforces the commitment of the Group to our radio operations. We plan to extend the Real Radio and Smooth fm brands through new licence applications and selective acquisitions as and when opportunities arise. It is entirely appropriate that the Radio division should be directly represented on the main Board alongside the other operating divisions.”

John Myers said: “I am delighted to be joining the Board when there is so much excitement about building the radio division and I look forward to playing my part in the future development of GMG.

John Myers, age 46, has been Chief Executive of GMG’s radio division since its inception in 1999. During that time the division has grown through licence application and acquisition and now consists of five regional radio stations in Glasgow, Yorkshire, South Wales, Manchester and London under the Real Radio and Smooth fm brands.

The group also broadcasts jazzfm via satellite and internet and is a member of the MXR digital radio group. The group broadcasts to 66% of the UK population to all platforms. The group moved into profitability last year and has continue to grow since. John was previously CEO at Century Radio and this year celebrated working in the industry for 25 years.
