Resonance celebrate new licence

?We are thrilled to receive this licence award and we will continue to dedicate ourselves to bold and innovative broadcasting over the course of the next five years,? said the Resonance team. ?The licence award makes evident that what radio listeners in London want is an intelligent and diverse alternative to mainstream, homogenised
broadcasting..

..Resonance 104.4FM?s broadcast content is as idiosyncratic and as culturally rich as the Metropolitan population to which it broadcasts and this is one of the key factors in our success.?

A quote from Programming Director Ed Baxter on the new community radio licence win.

Since its inception in 2002 Resonance 104.4FM has radically reinvented radio. For hundreds of thousands of people in London and beyond,
Resonance FM has become an indispensible alternative to homogenised commercial radio. Resonance FM has been lauded by the world?s media for its commitment to live, inventive, advert free broadcasting. Its programmes are produced by people whose specialist areas aren?t careerist choices but Resonance 104.4FM has a unique character, totally at odds with the mediocrity that usually passes for local radio but totally in tune with the diverse and eclectic community to which it broadcasts.

Now the station can continue to innovate after the award of a five year broadcast license from Ofcom, the broadcasting regulatory body. Operating from central London, Resonance 104.4FM serves London?s complex and varied communities. In some ways it?s a local station with a global outlook. Its internationalism is inevitable given its location in the center of a multicultural, cosmopolitan capital city.

Resonance FM is staffed by 4 permanent staff members and over 300 volunteer technical and production staff. It broadcasts 24 hours a day, 7 days a week via FM and online streaming. Archive shows are available on line and Resonance FM is a market leader in podcasting. Resonance FM transmits a rich mixture of comedy, experimental radio and experimental music, politics, community news, sport, art and culture. The award of the five year license is a landmark moment.

Resonance FM has successfully broken and reinvented the community radio mould: the license award vindicates such innovation.
