Five Nominations For Real Radio

Real Radio has received five nominations for this year?s Sony Radio Academy Awards, which celebrate excellence within the UK radio market.

Real Radio Yorkshire has been short-listed for four awards while sister station Real Radio Scotland has seen it?s daily sports show nominated for a prestigious Sony gong. Dubbed as the Oscars of the radio industry, the Sony?s this week announced two nominations for Real Radio Yorkshire?s late night phone-in ?The Umberto Show?.

The popular show, which has produced some extremely powerful radio over the last year as the host engages with listeners to tackle their emotional problems, has often led to life changing situations. Presenter Umberto has been shortlisted for the ?Speech Broadcaster of the Year? and secondly for the ?Speech Programme Award?.

The Real Radio news team were also successful and have been nominated for two awards for Real News at Five, a fifteen minute daily news update, for the ?News & Current Affairs Programme Award? as well as the ?News Feature Award? for its coverage of The Bradford City Fire: 20 Years After.

Real Radio Scotland is celebrating after it?s Real Football Phone-In hosts Ewen and Roughie saw their nightly sports programme nominated in the category of ?Sports Programme Award?. The station is the only commercial broadcaster short-listed in the category.

Jay Crawford, Real Radio Scotland?s Programme Director said: I?m proud of the guys, this is one of the most talked about radio shows in Scotland and deserves the accolade?.
