Two apply for Newry licence

It’s a two horse race for the new Newry local radio licence. Two companies are proposing a new station to serve Newry and Mourne in Northern Ireland.

Five FM, backed by River Media (who recently bought Mid 106 FM from CN Group) are proposing a music and information station for all adults in the Newry and Mourne area with a strong commitment to local content.

Quay 100 aims to be a local radio station catering for all adults (primarily targeted at the 35+ age group), focussing on local news, issues and information relevant to life today in Newry and Mourne; also featuring the best music from the last four decades, modern country music and specialist programming content.

Ofcom welcomes the views of the public about the local needs of listeners in this area and the type of service required. Opinions on these issues can either be emailed to commercialradio@ofcom.org.uk or posted to Neil Stock, Head of Radio Planning & Licensing, Ofcom, Riverside House, 2a Southwark Bridge Road, London SE1 9HA. Please mark the envelope ‘Newry licence’.
