BBC Radio 1 loses half a million

In the week when BBC Radio 1 is crowned Station of the Year in the Sony Awards, the latest RAJAR results show a loss of 560,000 listeners in the last three months.

Audiences fell from 10.29m to 9.73m in the last quarter. Breakfast show presenter Chris Moyles, who scooped the Entertainment Award at the Sonys, lost 300,000 listeners during the same period, but is still 130,000 up on last year. No mention was made, at least in the first couple of hours of his show about the new figures.

BBC Radio 2 also lost listeners in this latest Quarter, from from 13.25million to 12.94million. But when you have that many listeners, it is a very small amount to lose and nothing BBC bosses should be worried about.
