TLRC dump network phone-in

EXCLUSIVE: The Local Radio Company has axed it’s late night network phone in programme. North South Divided was hosted by Mike ‘the mouth’ Elliot and Carol McGiffen and was last broadcast on Wednesday 5th July 2006. Alex Grout will present a music based show from 10pm till 1am until the long term future of the slot is decided.

Richard Wheatly, Chief Executive of TLRC confirmed the show had ended, and told RadioToday.co.uk that “the show had run its course”. Former Group Programme Director Gordon Davidson, who left the company last month was responsible for the launch of the show 18 months ago along with a group-wide playlist and strapline.

At this stage, TLRC are not planning to find a replacement for Gordon, but instead working with regional Programme Controllers for local knowledge, suggesting that the company no longer wants to apply a nationwide approach to local output.
