Original 106 propose 24hr local news

The new regional radio station for the south, Original 106fm, has announced an exciting and unique commitment that will set it apart from the rest of the region?s radio stations – it will run live local news bulletins 24 hours a day.

Rather than opting for one of the satellite delivered national news feeds during off peak hours, the Original 106fm newsroom will be staffed around the clock and the station will be encouraging members of the public to telephone, text or e-mail-in with stories at any time.

To ensure smooth running of the 24 hour Newsroom, Alan Jennings has been appointed News Editor of Original 106fm. Alan has a wealth of experience in broadcast journalism, including a 12 year stint with British Forces Radio and Television as a broadcaster in various locations around the world.

Original 106fm Programme Director John Evington said, ?We?re delighted to get someone of Alan?s calibre to head up our news team. 24 hour local news will be a key feature of our station, and Alan has the drive, experience and expertise to make sure that our output is second to none?.

Original 106fm is the new radio station for the Solent region which launches later this year. It will play a broad, eclectic range of music, including a large proportion of album tracks, from a wide range of eras. Original 106fm will broadcast across the Solent region from transmitters in Bournemouth, Winchester and on the Isle of Wight.
