Strong start for U105 Belfast

UTV Radio-owned U105 in Belfast were celebrating today as the latest RAJAR figures released showed that the new station has built up an impressive 63,000 listeners per week in its first six months on air.

John Rosborough, Managing Director, U105 said: ?This is a fantastic achievement for all at U105 and we would like to thank our listeners for taking the time to tune up to 105.8 FM. We?re delighted that so many people are enjoying our diverse schedule of programming which provides topical speech and music from the 60?s right up to the present day.

?U105 is the first major station to launch in Northern Ireland in 16 years, in what is a well established and highly competitive radio market. We set ourselves a very ambitious target of achieving 98,000 listeners per week by the end of 2006, and today?s RAJAR figures indicate that we are well on track to achieve that goal.

?We?ve also noticed some interesting trends in these ratings which show that we have slightly more female listeners (56%) and a very high proportion of ABC1 adults (60%) which advertisers are always keen to target.

?We also have exciting plans in place to build upon this success in the coming months.?

U105 went on air on 14 November 2005 and is aimed at adults aged 40 plus living in Belfast and the surrounding area.
