Original 106.5 hires TLRC man

Original 106.5fm, the new CanWest radio station for the Bristol area is to be programmed by Stewart Smith. Stewart is currently Area Station Manager with The Local Radio Company, responsible for Ivel FM in Somerset and Vale FM in Dorset.

As Programme Controller, he will work with Tom Hunter who was appointed managing director late last year.

Stewart told us: "I'm really looking forward to working with MD Tom Hunter and building my on-air team. It's an exciting time and I can't wait to get started. Bristol is a wonderful, vibrant, exciting city and Original 106.5fm will be perfectly placed to make the most of the opportunities that the city has to offer."

Managing Director, Tom Hunter, is delighted with the appointment: "A station like ours needs a serious player to head up Programming. Stewart has an impressive track record and I am very confident that he will assemble a formidable team to put Original 106.5fm on the map".

Original 106.5fm will launch in early summer, broadcasting a mix of hits and album tracks to the city of Bristol. It will become the only local station with a commitment to 24 hour local news.
