BBC Radio 1 heads to Lancashire

The annual Radio 1 Big Weekend will be hosted in the newly created City of Preston this year. Jo Whiley announced the news during her show today, which was broadcast live from the National Football Museum. It will take place on May 19th and 20th at Moor Park which has a capacity of 30,000.

Radio 1 will be making sure the majority of free tickets go to residents of Preston and the surrounding areas.

Jason Carter, Live Music and Events Editor, said: "Radio 1 is delighted to announce Preston as host city for our seventh Big Weekend. The event has grown from strength to strength over the past few years, with massive line-ups with some of the biggest artists in the UK and from around the world performing.

"Radio 1 will be decamping for this weekend with all of our DJs to Moor Park. As well as bringing a stellar line-up it'll be an opportunity for Radio 1 to put a national focus on the North West and all that people are proud of there."
