The BBC move to Salford Quays has taken another step closer today with the land owners Peel Holdings submitting planning applications to Salford council. It is thought work could start on the site, pictured below, within months. About a quarter of the site will be home to the BBC, including national radio staton Five Live.
Eight hundred BBC staff are expected to be employed in the new Media City. The area is already home to media companies and radio stations, including Century FM, Xfm, Capital Gold, Smooth and soon to be launched RockTalk.
Your very own industry news website, RadioToday.co.uk is based at Salford Quays too, confirming it is the place to be for media in the northwest. Here is the site which Media City will be built, as taken this morning from our reporters car parking space!
