4 Digital questions NGW bid

The bid for the second national digital multiplex submitted by National Grid Wireless has been questioned by 4 Digital. The channel line-up includes two Channel 4 stations, of which C4 knows nothing about. It turns out NGW, if they won, would offer the space to 4 Digital to provide programming.

A Statement from 4 Digital shortly after bids closed today explains their position: "The three proposed Channel 4 branded radio stations unveiled today are exclusive to the 4 Digital Group bid. There have been no conversations between Channel 4 and NGW and there is no guarantee that the stations will launch if 4 Digital Group's application for the second national multiplex is unsuccessful. We do not recognise the descriptions of the two Channel 4 radio stations in NGW's bid – they bear little relation to any of our three proposed services and are entirely NGW's creation prepared without consulting Channel 4."

NGW has submitted plans for 12 new DAB radio services including a Radio 2-style music station, an over 50s station and a female friendly station playing love songs and ballads from the last 40 years.

The winner will be announced in July, with full bids expected to appear online within the next couple of days.
