Download radio songs for £1.25

UBC Media are set to launch their Digital Music Download service nationwide in April – a month earlier than scheduled. The facility has been available in London since November, and allows users to download the tracks they are listening to on digital radio, to both their PC and mobile handset.

UBC are expected to announce which radio stations in each major market will join them for the full launch shortly.

Currently the only handset able to use the service is the Virgin Lobster, but Simon Cole, chief executive of UBC is confident a host of other products will be coming on the market soon: "There is evidence that this will be a huge area of business. If we get 1.4 million users by 2012 downloading five or six tracks per month, we will have a £100m business making £10m profits in the UK."

The cost-per-track is £1.25 – quite expensive compared to the popular iTunes service which charges 79p.
