John Peel is Broadcaster’s Broadcaster

The legendary late Radio 1 DJ John Peel has been voted the most influential broadcaster by the radio industry. The Sony Radio Academy Awards panel had picked a shortlist of 25 that people working in the industry have been picking their favourites from over the last few weeks. John's widow Sheila Ravenscroft accepted the award on his behalf.

Over the last hour Right Said Fred, Jamelia, Tony Blackburn and Beverley Knight were among the celebs on stage to hand out awards. The BBC have picked up 21 of the 27 awards handed out so far.

The News & Current Affairs Programme Award – BBC Five Live Breakfast
The News Feature Award – Letters from Guantanamo Bay, BBC Radio 4
The Music Broadcaster of the Year Award – Colin Murray, BBC Radio 1
Station Programmer of the Year Award – Francis Currie, Heart network
The Interactive Programme Award – PM, BBC Radio 4
Station of the Year (under 300,000) – Isle of Wight Radio
Station of the Year (300,000 to 1million) – BBC Radio Derby
The Breakfast Show Award – The Today Programme, BBC Radio 4
The Specialist Music Programme Award – Friction, BBC Asian Network
The Entertainment Award – Chris Evans, BBC Radio 2
