BBC breakfast presenter quits

BBC Radio Merseyside's breakfast show host Simon O'Brien has resigned from his position. The news comes after many complaints reached the station following a trail which was broadcast featuring a four letter word. Co-host Lucinda Moore is now listed online as the sole breakfast presenter on the station.

The trail, which should have been editied before it was broadcast, had Simon saying: ""f*** the government, f*** the planners", whilst talking about the Edge Lane development in the city.

In a statement, he said: "I am very sorry for the lapse yesterday morning, which will have caused offence to many listeners. The pre-recorded material, which was entirely my work, was never meant to be broadcast.

"I further stress that the views aired were my personal views and in no way reflect the editorial position of BBC Radio Merseyside or the BBC in general. In the circumstances, I have decided the correct thing to do is to resign from BBC Radio Merseyside with immediate effect."
