New boss at Ofcom announced

Radio industry regulator Ofcom has appointed a new Chief Operating Officer. Jill Ainscough will take on the responsibilities Ed Richards had before his appointment as Chief Exec last year, which include technology, planning and development. She's previously worked for broadband and cable companies.

Her most recent post was as Managing Director of Easynet, the broadband firm bought out by BkyB, and she's also worked at ntl, the Cambridge Cable Group and the Granada Group.

Commenting on the appointment, Ed Richards said "Ofcom is very fortunate to have found someone of Jill's calibre and experience for this crucial role. I know she will make an excellent contribution to our important consumer and citizen-facing activities and well as to the effectiveness of the working practices of a lean regulator."

Jill, who starts the new job next month, said "Ofcom has an excellent reputation, so I am delighted to be joining its team as it continues to improve its functions and responsiveness to its many stakeholders."
