Gaydio helps BBC cover Pride

BBC Radio Manchester has joined forces with local RSL station Gaydio to offer extra coverage of Manchester Pride. On Saturday the BBC and Gaydio jointly produced live coverage of the parade through the city centre, with updates from Radio Manchester's Anthony Crank, Gaydio’s Brian Day and breakfast hosts Chris and Emma.

Programme Controller of Gaydio, Toby Whitehouse, said “It’s great teaming up with BBC Radio Manchester again. We received lots of positive messages for our coverage of the parade last year, but this year we will be able to offer a much more colourful reflection of the parade by combining resources. We’re so grateful for the support of the BBC, and we hope that this can continue into the future”

John Ryan, Managing Editor of BBC Radio Manchester added: “The BBC has a strong commitment to working with communities. By joining forces with Gaydio we are able to provide a much more honest reflection of one of the biggest celebrations in the City. The spirit of the community comes across so clearly when their voices can be heard”

The coverage continues on both stations today and culminates with the Candlelit Vigil at 9pm this evening provided by BBC Radio Manchester’s Citizen Manchester team.
