Christian re-signs at Virgin

Virgin Radio breakfast presenter Christian O’Connell has secured himself another couple of years on the national station after signing a new two year contract. He joined the station in January 2006 from Xfm and has won a long list of industry awards over the years including three Sony Awards in 2005.

Christian has grown his audience to 1.1million listeners every morning and is attracting high-profile brand partners such as long-term Virgin Radio partner and Breakfast Show sponsor Sky, Twentieth Century Fox and Renault to Virgin Radio’s Breakfast Show. This new contract commits Christian to the station until end of 2009.

“Ever since I opened my first ever show on Virgin Radio with Bon Jovi's 'Keep The Faith' I knew this was the place for me,” said Christian O’Connell. “I’ve had the opportunity to meet and speak to some amazing people, Tony Blair, Noel Gallagher, Daniel Craig, Thandie Newton and of course my listeners. I’ve even been able to drop Suggs’ Rolls Royce into a swimming pool — I can’t wait to see what the next couple of years here hold for me.”

“Christian has proved he is one of the hottest properties in British Radio with an impressive performance over the past two years,” said David Andrews, Audience Development Director at Virgin Radio. “Three consecutive quarterly Rajar increases demonstrate more listeners than ever are tuning in. He has been a huge commercial success — the Breakfast Show remains one of the most high-profile properties in radio.”
