BBC Radio 3 to stream opera

Radio 3 is to video stream an opera for the first time via its website. It will feature the English National Opera's performance of Carmen on November 3rd. It is also the first time a UK opera house has offered a complete production online.

Roger Wright, Controller, Radio 3, said: "This is an exciting opportunity for Radio 3 and ENO to bring a new opera production to the widest possible audience and we are delighted to extend our relationship with ENO in this way. Using technology to give audiences a richer experience is something we want to continue to explore further in the future."

This partnership with ENO builds on the success of Radio 3's broadband video offerings of the Awards for World Music 2007 and Radio 3's website will continue to offer video streaming to enhance its coverage of the London Jazz Festival in 2007.

Four or five concerts featured in Radio 3's London Jazz Festival coverage will be available online to view for seven days after the festival has finished.
