Nick Clarke honoured by beeb

Former host of BBC Radio 4's The World at One programme Nick Clarke is set to have a new award launched in his honour. The Nick Clarke Award will be awarded to the single best broadcast interview conducted each year.

The award will be launched at this year's Cheltenham Literature Festival by Radio 4 Controller Mark Damazer at The Nick Clarke Debate on Saturday 6 October 2007.

The first Nick Clarke Award will cover interviews conducted between 31 July 2007 and 31 July 2008 with the winner will announced at next year's Cheltenham Literature Festival in October 2008. The winner will receive a dozen bottles of good claret — which Nick himself would have enjoyed.

Each programme wishing to enter can only nominate one interview. There is no stipulation regarding length — but the interview must be submitted exactly as it was broadcast. Internet-only interviews will not be allowed. A number of panels will listen to the submissions and a final shortlist will be drawn up. The judges will come from the BBC and other broadcast organisations.

Closing date for submissions will be 4 August 2008.
