BBC launches music podcasts

The BBC has today launched music podcasts. A wide range of musical genres will be available including pop, folk, hip hop, jazz, indie, rhythm and Blues, dance, punk and Asian Music.

The music pods will compliment the speech based ones already available from Russell Brand, Chris Moyles and The Archers. They will also contain material previously broadcast on BBC Radio as well as short musical clips.

When the service launched today, the first pod available was Radio 1's Chart Show. Later this week Radio 1's specialist music shows will be available and from next weekend other shows including BBC Asian Network Chart will be available for download.

Mark Friend, Controller, Multiplatform & Interactive, BBC Audio & Music, said: "Including clips of music in our podcasting service allows us to represent the incredible breadth of BBC Radio's output.

"We now have a service that offers highlights of both music and speech programming, giving listeners a much wider choice of great content to download."
