More DAB for Wales and Somerset

Ofcom has added two more areas to their planned timetable for future digital radio multiplexes. The county of Somerset and the counties of Gwynedd, Anglesey/Sir Ynys Mon, Conwy and most of Denbighshire/Sir Ddinbych in north Wales will be advertised in early 2008.

In north Wales, capacity will be reserved for BBC Radio Wales and BBC Radio Cymru with a predicted adult population within licensed area of 311,146. The achievable coverage of this licence may be significantly constrained until June 2015 at the latest under the terms of international spectrum agreements, Ofcom say.

In Somerset, capacity will be reserved for BBC Somerset Sound and will reach a predicted adult population within licensed area of 407,512.

Ofcom have yet to also advertise Mid and West Wales and Surrey & northern Sussex before the end of this year.
