Kevin Greening 1962 – 2007

If you had the pleasure of meeting Kevin Greening, you'll know he was a bright, intelligent, charming individual. This weekend the smooth radio presenter sadly passed away suddenly in his sleep at the age of 44.

His career began in textbook fashion, with stints in hospital radio at Bristol and student radio at Cambridge. He went on to join the BBC, working first at the World Service then at GLR, initially as a producer going on to become breakfast presenter.

After a short stint with Virgin Radio, Kevin joined Radio 1 where he presented shows across the schedules, in particular weekday breakfast with Zoe Ball. He has since presented on Radio Five Live, XFM, BBC Radio Manchester and most recently on 102.2 Smooth Radio.

As a broadcaster, Kevin was passionate and meticulous about his craft and an inspiration to many now working in radio. His extensive career and involvement with the Radio Academy made him friends throughout the industry, his commentary during the Sony Awards webcasts was inspired.

The industry has lost an inspired broadcaster, many working within it have lost a dear friend and colleague.

GMG Radio's group programming director, John Simons said "We are extremely saddened to learn of the sudden death of Kevin Greening at the weekend. He was a talented broadcaster and we were privileged to have him as our afternoon presenter at smooth radio in London.

"He was passionate about radio and music and will be sadly missed not only by his colleagues at smooth but by millions of listeners. It's a terrible loss to broadcasting. Our sympathies are with Kevin's family and friends at this time."
