New BBC homepage helps radio

The new BBC homepage not only helps to highlight the corporations radio programmes and channels, but the customised local feature, currently running in BETA mode, shows programme schedules from a users local BBC radio station.

Once a user enters their postcode, local weather, news, sport and now BBC local radio schedules are displayed. And users can drag the radio "widget" to any part of the page.

For example, here at RadioToday.co.uk we enter M5 as our postcode at Salford Quays, and we are told who is on-air now and next at BBC Radio Manchester. It is the first time users are able to listen live to BBC Radio directly from the homepage.

The redesign marks the first stage of the roll out of new features aimed at delivering a reinvented bbc.co.uk that provides on-demand services as outlined by BBC Director-General Mark Thompson's Delivering Creative Future announcement.

Tony Ageh, Controller, Internet, BBC, said: "These exciting developments mark an important stage in the work the BBC is doing to aggregate content more effectively and give users more control over how they experience [link=http://www.bbc.co.uk]bbc.co.uk[/link].
