BBC host Phil Wood suspended

BBC Radio Manchester's late night host Phil Wood has been suspended by the corporation after it emerged he was involved in an apparent hit and run accident. Phil is a long established presenter in the area having previously worked for Piccadilly Radio.

The Manchester Evening News today covered the story of Phil being involved in the incident in Stretford last year, apparently leaving a man at the side of the road.
Phil contacted the police shortly after the event saying he thought he may have been involved in an accident but had not stopped because he thought the person involved was trying to steal his car.
A BBC spokesman told the paper: "The BBC was unaware of the incident. We have asked Mr Wood to step down from his show while we investigate further."
Station boss John Ryan will present the programme all next week in his absence.
