Radio Leicester presenter axed

Popular BBC Radio Leicester weekend presenter Bill Maynard has apparently been sacked without warning from his Sunday afternoon programme. Now the former Heartbeat actor is on the lookout for more radio work and wants to take over from Wogan.

"I'd defect to anybody who wants to use me," he told the Leicester Mercury. "There are several radio stations who have shown an interest in my work. I might take over from Wogan."
Bill is best known as Heartbeat rogue Claude Greengrass and was previously at the station in 1968 before his television career took off. He joined again five years ago and has built up a loyal audience who are shocked to see him go.
The local paper said Radio Leicester's managing editor Kate Squire visited him at home to tell him the show was being dropped.
