GMG Radio buys Wales

Guardian Media Group’s radio division has moved away from buying traditional media and UK radio stations to a new target – an entire country.

It is thought the opportunity was too good to miss, according to a leaked staff memo that was issued to staff yesterday.
“It will enable us to spread Real Radio Wales further north, to cover the entire country,” GMG Radio boss John Myers is thought to have said. The group’s first mission is to allow themselves to turn up their 105.4 transmitter, based in Cardiff, to one million watts to enable the signal to reach as far north as Wrexham.
RadioToday.co.uk also believes the company is looking at striking a similar deal in Scotland.
