Sony Awards 2008 – who’s who

It will come as no suprise that the BBC is once again dominating the nominations for annual Sony Radio Academy Awards. 1463 entries were submitted by over 200 radio stations and 70 indpendent companies. In the commercial sector, Bauer Radio received the most nominations with 18 potential gongs, followed by GCap and GMG Radio.

In London, cue the new Moyles jingles as he goes head-to-head with Johnny Vaughan for best breakfast show. In the north congratulations to GMG for no less than four awards for Century Radio's news team. Fru Hazlitt will be loving the fact that Planet Rock, the station she wanted to shut down has gained three nominations and the station imaging award will be fought out between new kids on the block JACK fm and Xfm, Magic 105,4, Radio Aire and 5 Live.

The BBC are guaranteed to win in four categories which they dominate, best speech programme, best speech broadcaster, best comedy award and UK station of the year.

The award ceremony will take place at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London on May 12th. Good luck to all.
