Wise Buddah hires BBC exec

Former BBC Radio 1 and 4 executive producer Maria Williams is joining independent production company Wise Buddah as head of programmes, starting next month.

Maria most recently created and launched Radio 4’s flagship weekend strand Saturday Live with Fi Glover. The show has this week won gold in the prestigious best speech programme award category at the Sony Radio Awards.
Maria has worked across four BBC radio networks. She was deputy editor of Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour, and produced Skint, a documentary about Brighton & Hove Albion FC for Radio 5 Live. Maria also produced two series of The Directors with Mark Kermode and executive produced the Sony Gold award winning Bond music tribute For Your Ears Only, both for Radio 2.
Maria says "Radio is such a powerful medium. It can be intimate, moving, funny – and the relationship you build with an audience is like nothing else. I'm thrilled to be joining Wise Buddah at a time when the opportunities to make great radio are expanding so rapidly. It's an exciting time for everyone in the industry, and I'm looking forward to working with the team on ideas for new, ground-breaking content."
Mark Goodier says “We’re passionate about radio at Wise Buddah. Having been an admirer of Maria’s work for many years I’m delighted that she is coming to lead our creative team as we develop our offering to take advantage of new opportunities in content commissioning.”
