GCap helps charity projects

GCap Media and youth volunteering charity v have created over 6000 opportunities at 170 projects across England in the first half of its three year partnership.

The commercial radio group, which is reportedly in the middle of axing up to 200 jobs, has now distributed over £1.2m from the v Match Fund to local community groups through 20 of its stations including Invicta FM, Southern FM, Choice FM, Severn Sound and Beacon FM.
The projects are across a range of activities including community cohesion, sport, music and arts and the environment. Over 400 local groups have applied with the successful grants being decided by a specially convened 'v' panel in each area made up of young people, station personnel and community representatives.
v is the youth volunteering charity launched in May 2006 whose mission is to inspire a new generation of young volunteers in England aged 16-25. v is supported by the Third Sector of the Cabinet Office.
