UTV Radio has abandoned plans to create a super-broadcasting centre in Newton-le-Willows to house Wish, Wire and Tower FM.
Instead, a plan to modernised Wish FM's home in Orrell Lodge, Wigan will be put in to operation and will see Wire FM will move from Warrington and Tower FM from Bolton.
Chris Hurst, ILR Managing Director UTV Radio in applying for the format change for Wire FM, said: "Moving Wire FM into the existing offices of Wish FM in Wigan will not alter the station’s Character of Service. Wire will continue to serve Warrington and the surrounding communities as it has done for the past decade, and will always remain “a locally focused, broad music and information station for 25-44 year olds in the Warrington and Halton area”.
Tower FM already has permission to move out of Bolton and will now move to Wigan instead of Newton-Le-Willows.
Ofcom said: "In many ways, not least of all involving cultural affinity, this is a logical move for a small station, which should see resources better spread."
