Olympic swimmer joins Amber

An Olympic swimmer who represented Great Britain at the 2008 Beijing Games has joined a community radio station in Derbyshire to co-host the drivetime show.

Julia Beckett, who competed in the 4x100m Freestyle Relay, has turned her back on the pool and is now helping out at Derbyshire’s newest radio station, Amber Sound 107.2FM.
Julia who is originally from Winchester, swam with the Loughborough University Swimming Club before announcing her retirement after the Olympic Games earlier this year. She will team up with current drivetime team, Chris Birks and Barry Jamm.
Chris said; “Jules, Barry and I all have a wicked senses of humour so I am sure that the people of Amber Valley will have a giggle with us in the afternoon”.
Julia added; “Ever since leaving Swimming, I have wanted to make a difference elsewhere and put something back into the communities who showed their support not only for me, but the rest of Team GB’s incredible athletes. Everyone has made me feel so welcome at Amber Sound and I can’t wait to get on with the job.”
