Galloway blamed for OBE call

Michelle Mone thought she was being wound-up by Real Radio Scotland when she got a call to say she had been awarded an OBE.

She won the award for her services to the lingerie industry, but thought breakfast presenter Robin Galloway was winding her up.

Glasgow-born Michelle told The Scottish Sun she thought her time had come: "My PA ran in and said, 'That's the Palace on the phone'. The lady was so posh she sounded just like Robin Galloway.

"She said, 'I'm just calling to see if you are refusing the Queen's award?' She explained a letter had been sent, but I still didn't believe it.

"I got her number and called back, and it was then it began to sink in. I said, 'I thought you were from Real Radio', and she replied, 'What's that?'

"It turned out they sent the letter to my old address."

The Ultimo boss concluded: "Getting an OBE is great – I'm over the moon."

Robin said when he heard the news; "I am delighted for Michelle, she is an inspiration to everyone a wonderful and proud ambassador for Scotland and a great person. The fact that I was her first thought when she was offered the OBE is flattering beyond words but I can assure Michelle, her call will come and when it does it will be epic. Congratulations, Michelle!"
