Star Bristol to change Format

Celador Radio has been granted permission by Ofcom to change the Format of one of its Bristol stations.

Star Radio, which has historically been a soulful, adult contemporary music based service, will now be an easy listening service for the over 40s.

The new Format is not too dissimilar to Celador's other over 40s station The Breeze, which is based in Southampton.

Asked if they plan to re-brand Star Bristol to The Breeze, a Celador spokesperson told us: "We will now carefully consider all of our options and whilst there are no concrete plans at the moment, certainly it would be better for us to have a Bristol service that is complementary to existing stations rather than directly competitive."

All eight responses to the consultation regarding the change were against the proposal, which also removes the requirement to broadcast "specific programming" directly involving Bristols multicultural communities. Celador argued the two local community radio stations now serve multicultural communities instead.
