The Hits wants future talent

Bauer station The Hits Radio is launching a competition with the Student Radio Association to find up and coming radio presenters – and one will win their own show.

All entrants will get feedback on their demos, three runners up will get some detailed career advice and the winner will get a month of weekend shows and a chance to impress the bosses with what they can do.

Bauer say it's more than just a competition though and the partnership with the SRA and What Goes On Media will help them find the radio talent of tomorrow – plus help student radio presenters wanting a career in the industry to get some support.

Alex James from The Hits Radio is one of the judges and says he thinks competition will be fierce. "I know what it’s like to come from Student Radio and what it was like getting my first break on a commercial radio station!" he said. "The future of radio is out there but we recognise that it is now even tougher than ever before to break into. We hope we'll encourage the best budding talent to enter and the winner will receive the biggest career break possible – their own show for a month of Sundays!"

One winner will be selected to come to Bauer's studios in Manchester and record four shows that will go out across the nation over one month. They will also see their name in lights on Freeview TV across the UK. A one off training session with Sam and Kate at What Goes on Media will also help spur them on.

The Hits Radio has also committed to give every demo sent in feedback and a further three runner up with received very detailed feedback on what to do next to break into the industry from What Goes On Media. Sam Walker, who also presents afternoon on Key 103, added: "If you want to break into radio there has never been a better opportunity to get advice on what to do next. Every person who takes the time to enter will get feedback."
