Bauer picks up 2 awards for radio news

Two of Bauer Media’s north west radio stations are celebrating after being recognised in the O2 Media Awards.

Key 103 won Editorial Team of the Year whilst Rock FM’s Janine Bolton was named Radio Broadcast Journalist of the Year.

Judges said the Key 103 newsroom was a “small team achieving remarkable results” and Janine was praised by judges for her professional news reporting style and for having complete empathy with her interview subjects. The panel had been particularly moved by her stories on sufferers of Locked In Syndrome.

Steve King, Bauer’s Regional Managing Director for North West and the Midlands, said: “We are incredibly proud of our winners and the teams behind the scenes that support them. At Bauer we passionately believe in the importance of truly local broadcasting. Quality news that deals with issues that matter to our listeners is the lifeblood of our stations and I’m delighted that it has been recognised through these awards.”

Runners up included Kelly O’Donnell from Tower FM/Wish FM, who was nominated for O2 Sports Journalist of the Year, and Jimmy McCracken from BBC Radio Merseyside just missed out on the O2 Radio Broadcast Journalist of the Year.

The rest of the awards were dominated by local newspapers and television journalists.
