Johnny Vaughan has left the breakfast show on 95.8 Capital FM. His last show was today.
The London show will be hosted by Greg Burns and current co-host Lisa Snowdon until a replacement is announced in the new year.
Johnny took over the show in 2004 from Chris Tarrant and is the most listened to commercial radio breakfast show in London, according to RAJAR.
The Guardian reports “Vaughan was told this morning by Richard Park, director of broadcasting, that his two-year contract was not going to be renewed – so decided he did not want to continue fronting the show while serving out his notice.”
I have just loved doing this job,” said Johnny “but after all these years of getting up in the middle of the night, I really think the time is right to hand over the microphone to someone else. It’s been a joy waking up London every morning and a thrill to have been part of the broadcasting tapestry of this great city.”
Richard Park, Global’s Director of Broadcasting said: “Johnny has done a fantastic job over the years, particularly recently, building the programme with Lisa Snowdon, into London’s most popular commercial radio breakfast show. Johnny is a skilled broadcaster on radio and television,” added Park, “and we thank him for his time with 95.8 Capital FM, while wishing him every success for the future.”
