Metro Radio promote £1m of work in 24hrs

Bauer’s Newcastle-based Metro Radio has exceeded its target to help listeners find jobs – within 24 hours of launching.

The station’s latest £1m of Work campaign began on Monday morning’s breakfast show, with the aim to get companies based in the North East to promote vacancies for free on air and on the website.

In the first day, Metro had already promoted a million pounds worth of jobs – including for major firms like Sage Computing and McDonalds – and has now upped the target to £3m within 48 hours.

Sir Richard Branson, who is fully backing the second year of the campaign said: “It’s a great idea and you’ve got my 100% endorsement…hopefully we can work with you on it – it’d be a great pleasure.”

In 2011, the campaign promoted £15m worth of jobs within a 4-week period.

Head News Editor at Metro Radio, Justin Kings, said: “Last year we were amazed by the response to £1m of Work. This year we are completely blown away!! To reach almost £3M of new work in the north east within 2 days is thanks to the businesses, large and small, that have responded so positively to this campaign. As I write the North East Chamber of Commerce is the latest organisation asking to get involved. It’s a incredible response to a serious problem for our region.”
