The 2012 Student Radio Awards have opened, with those involved in the sector able to put in their entries until 13th July.
Nominations will be announced this year on 10th October, with winners unveiled at a ceremony at London’s Indigo2 on 8th November.
Once again over a hundred judges from across the radio industry will be listening to student radio entries and deciding who are the cream of the crop.
Fred Bradley, Chair of the Student Radio Association said: “The Student Radio Awards are about showcasing the talent that is emerging from student radio. The best feeling for me is that professionals from right across the industry are there supporting what we do, and helping student radio as a whole develop for the future.”
Entrants have to be members of the Student Radio Association and can put in their audio and details via the Student Radio Awards website.
And just to prove that good things can come of getting a trophy at the Student Radio Awards, last year’s winners of the ‘Best Male’ and ‘Best Female’ presenter categories recently did their own shows on Radio 1. Tamsin Grainger and Pete Allison each covered for Dev on early breakfast over the Jubilee bank holiday weekend.
Pete, who also now does weekend mornings on Capital FM in Yorkshire, said: “Student radio has opened up some incredible opportunities for me since winning the award in November. It’s been a busy few months since I won and I’m really excited for what lies ahead”.
BBC Radio 1 & 1Xtra’s Student Radio liaison, Neil Sloan said: “BBC Radio 1 is committed to providing on-air opportunities for new presenters and the Student Radio Awards provide the opportunity for us to showcase the very best in Student Radio across the UK.”
