Steve Lamacq has announced he will be hosting a Christmas Ska Party live from the BBC’s Maida Vale Studios on Tuesday 13 December from 4-7pm.
Joining Steve to toast the festive period will be ska legends The Beat featuring Ranking Roger, 2 Tone titans The Selecter, Glaswegian sound system Mungo’s Hi Fi and the don himself, David Rodigan.
The three-hour live music show will feature new and classic tracks played by The Beat who will perform Mirror in the Bathroom and Tears of a Clown, along with The Selecter who will play On My Radio and Missing Words. Alongside them will be Mungo’s Hi Fi and David Rodigan providing the soundtrack of rare records and festive tinged ska favourites on the turntables.
Steve Lamacq says: “A couple of years ago, I was quite surprised to find a really good compilation of Ska Christmas songs, which is what gave us the idea for the party. And it seemed a terrific opportunity to reunite a couple of our leading 2 Tone era bands, because they’ve both been gigging recently.
“I saw The Selecter at Glastonbury a couple of years ago and all the energy and the drive is still there. I think what they do is incredibly inspiring and infectious.
“And the DJs will be excellent. David Rodigan is my reggae hero and his sets are always a celebratory snapshot of the scene, past and present, while Mungo’s Hi Fi will be bringing their new brand of old school reggae as well.”
