Frank Skinner and DJ Spoony amongst New Year Honours

Absolute Radio’s Frank Skinner and BBC radio host DJ Spoony have been recognised in King Charles’ first New Year Honours list.

Frank has been presenting on radio since 2009 and gets an MBE for services to entertainment whilst DJ Spoony has been given a BEM for his services to charity through music during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The former KISS and Radio 1 DJ is now on BBC Radio 2.

Other radio people on the big list include Anne Diamond, John Bennett, John Suchet, YolanDa Brown and Jo Tongue.

Anne, who has worked at BBC local radio and LBC, has been given an OBE. She currently presents weekend breakfast on GB News Radio.

John Bennett works weekends on BBC Radio Ulster, and has been on-air there since 1979. He has been awarded with an MBE.

Former Classic FM morning presenter John Suchet gets an OBE for services to journalism and charity.

YolanDa Brown, a presenter on Jazz FM, is chair of the British Phonographic Industry and is awarded an OBE for services to music, music education and broadcasting.

And Jo Tongue, who started her broadcasting career 20 years ago as a sports reporter with the BBC, and was Editor of 606 on 6 Live for 10 years, gets an MBE for services to football and gender equality.
