Hermitage FM and Carillon Wellbeing Radio are to cease broadcasting in the coming weeks.
Owners of the community radio services say the closures are unavoidable due to illness.
Hermitage FM, which has broadcast since 2009 on 99.2FM, and CWR, which is a health information / hospital radio service on 1476AM, are set to close at the end of March 2024.
A message online says: “We, Jon and Jan Sketchley, have worked tirelessly for almost 17 years to bring a local radio service to North West Leicestershire on Hermitage FM, as well as a regional service – along with the NHS and Leicestershire County Council – on CWR since 2018.
“Regrettably, due to Jon’s prolonged illness, closure is now unavoidable. Our Community Coffee Lounge in Memorial Square, Coalville, will also close.
“Throughout the years we have come to know hundreds, if not thousands, of listeners and customers who have supported our not-for-profit organisation. You can find out more about the history of the project in this short video.
“We would like to thank everyone who we have met along the way, as well as the many supporters who have helped to make the project possible and sustainable.
“Over the years we have raised funds for many good causes, supported hundreds of town events and helped many people find their careers in both broadcasting and hospitality. Our Community Coffee Lounge has provided a friendly place in the heart of Coalville for people to relax, socialise and enjoy good food.
“Our music and entertainment have been welcomed and enjoyed by so many people and we will sorely miss you – our customers and listeners.
“God bless you all!”
