Sarah Julian to host Breakfast BBC Radio WM replacing Rakeem Omar

Sarah Julian is moving from BBC Radio Nottingham to host Breakfast on BBC Radio WM.

The new show will start on Tuesday 7th May, weekdays from 6 till 10am.

Sarah joined the BBC in 1997 and is currently the Breakfast Show presenter in Nottingham and has worked across several BBC stations and projects.

She was also one of eight BBC journalists who were recognised for their remarkable interviews in September 2022, with then prime minister, Liz Truss following the announcement of the governments mini budget. She was honoured with the Broadcasting Press Guild Jury Prize last year.

Sarah says: “I’m really excited to be joining the team at WM. I can’t wait to bring to life all of the stories and personalities here. This is such a vibrant and exciting part of UK and I’m looking forward to getting right to the concerns, joys and passions of the people who live here. It’ll make the 0330 alarm worth it. It’s going to be bostin’!”

Chris Pegg, Acting Executive Editor for BBC Radio WM, said: “Sarah comes with tons of experience, she is funny, an amazing journalist and very creative – everything audiences need to help them navigate their busy mornings across Birmingham and the Black Country.”

Sarah will replace Rakeem Omar who is stepping down from the show but remaining with the station.

Chris Pegg added: “Rakeem is fantastic to work with and I would like to thank him for all of the fun, heart and talent he has brought to the breakfast show. He is a huge part of the BBC Radio WM family and will continue to be so.”
