Toby Tarrant to pedal 56 miles down River Thames for charity

Radio X’s Toby Tarrant is to take on a challenge of pedalling down the River Thames in a pedalo to raise funds for Global’s Make Some Noise.

The ‘Tarrant vs the Thames’ challenge will see him pedal for 56 miles on a bespoke Radio X pedalo crafted to look like a unicorn!

While the average amount of time a person spends on a pedalo in a single session is around 30 minutes, the challenge means Toby will have to pedal for eight hours a day consistently for five days.

Toby said: “I mean, I’ve done some mad things in my time, many of which aren’t safe for radio, but I have never attempted anything on this scale before.

“I am so up for this though. Training has begun and I’ve already spent some time in the pedalo, getting a feel for things, and I just want October 7th to get here now to be honest!

“It’s going to be tough going on my lanky legs, but I want to push myself to the limit if it means raising money for the vital community projects that Global’s Make Some Noise funds.”

Suzanne Ryder-Richardson, Director of Global Goodness, said: “We’re thrilled that Toby will be taking on this unique challenge for Global’s Make Some Noise.

“Every donation to support Toby in his challenge will allow us to make a real difference to lives across the UK through the amazing projects that we are proud to support, so it’s wonderful to have Toby and Radio X’s support.

“Thank you also to those who are able to donate and support this challenge, you will help us to change even more lives.”

Matt Deverson, Managing Editor for Radio X, added: “Toby’s always up for a challenge and always up for the ridiculous, so we knew this would be up his street. Toby has found even more motivation following an inspirational visit to one of the projects funded by Global’s Make Some Noise.

“We’re so excited to follow him along his journey on Radio X as he pedals down the River Thames. We’ll be checking in with him regularly across the station for updates, cheering him on the whole way. Best of luck, Toby!”

Launching on Monday 7th October, Toby will begin the challenge at Henley-on-Thames and will finish five days later on Friday 11th October at Walton-on-Thames.
