JACK fm Hertfordshire rebrands as BOB fm

Hertfordshire station 106 JACK fm has rebranded as BOB fm this morning just after the 8am news.

The station said it had a dispute with the owners of the JACK fm brand so looked at hundreds of other names before deciding on using BOB fm.

The dispute centred on the exclusive use of the JACK fm name – which the station says is only exclusive on FM and not DAB. The station said the owners of JACK fm wanted to launch another JACK fm on DAB – on the Herts, Beds and Bucks multiplex, duplicating the local FM service for Hertfordshire.

Management at JACK fm Hertfordshire then decided the best way forward was to re-launch with a new name – BOB fm. The re-launch coincides with the launch of the station on DAB.

There are already a number of stations called Bob FM in the US and Canada, but the UK-station owners have registered the BOB fm name as a trademark in the UK and is

not connected with other BOB fm’s elsewhere.
