Being a gamer can be both wonderful and wonderfully frustrating.
There are so many times that I’ve been playing a game that I enjoy, only to come across a mission that immediately turns me into a novice. One try, two tries, three, and the ‘Game Over’ screen starts to form itself into my screensaver.
It’s annoying, for sure, but thanks to the internet, we all now have a way of researching strategies and tactics. Podcasts, for instance, have become heavily popular in recent years for gamers. Whether it’s ‘Giant Bombcast’ or ‘Zorkcast’, there are a number of gaming podcasts that take a deep dive into the playing experience and help to level up our skills.
But what if you’re not much of a podcast listener? According to recent studies, there are over 546 million podcast listeners worldwide, but at the same time, there are over 3.32 billion gamers, so clearly a lot of people aren’t taking advantage. So should you take advantage? Can you really learn about strategies and tactics from podcasts? Let’s find out.
The iGaming, iListening Revolution
I want to start by focusing on the iGaming scene. As I mentioned previously, Zorkcast is one of the most popular shows in the podcast scene, and this looks specifically at the world of casinos and slots – and how to build strategies to win. This is especially important in the iGaming scene.
To give an example, AskGamblers (askgamblers.com/online-casinos) offers a number of new instant play and mobile casino platforms across multiple countries, each of which has some enticing offers for new players, but it’s’ going to be hard to take advantage of the bonuses and promotions if you don’t have the strategies in place to win.
Whatsmore, the world of iGaming is not like the world of traditional gaming. Losing doesn’t simply mean getting a ‘Game Over’ screen, it means literally losing out on your deposits, so it’s important to not only gamble safely but also take the time to listen to podcasts like these that can walk you through the basics and help to develop your game.
The Rising World of Gamer Podcasts
When it comes to other types of games such as:
- Console
- Mobile
- PC
OR listening to engaging, strategy-filled podcasts isn’t as much of a necessity, but just as the iGaming podcast world has taken off, traditional gamer podcasts have taken off with it. This is because it’s not just the strategies and tips that are appreciated, but the entertaining, ‘radio show’-esque structure too.
There are plenty of times that I’ve searched for strategies for a specific mission, only to find a chunky article with a whole lot of jargon. It’s a problem a lot of people face, and the issue with this kind of content is that it’s very hard to absorb. I don’t want to read a thousand-word article about strategies, especially when there are alternatives. More and more people are creating a podcast, and that’s because they want to engage us, and keep us entertained, and that makes us more ready to absorb the information we’re listening to.
The Role of the Podcast
This is aided by the fact that most podcasts aren’t run by people who don’t really know what they’re talking about – another problem that I’ve found when researching articles online. Instead, many of the best gamer podcasts feature:
- industry insiders
- pro players
- developers
All of whom offer unique perspectives on how to approach different challenges.
This is also true of the iGaming podcasts mentioned earlier – with some of the most popular including high-profile guests who have played and won casino games at the highest level. It’s a lot easier to attain some useful strategies and advice if we’re getting them from people in the know.
Not only this, but podcasts often provide useful insights into specific releases or genres, rather than broader, potentially less useful advice. Whether it’s dissecting a combat guide for Elden Ring, or explaining how to master the intricacies of a multiplayer shooter, these discussions can reveal new approaches and tips that can improve our playstyle.
A Community of Listeners
For me personally, one of the best things about podcasts is that there is a community huddled around them. Like a team talk before a football match, these communities often rally together to share personal experiences, tips, and strategies, working to share their knowledge and help fellow gamers to explore new angles. As a gamer, you not only have an entertaining podcast to listen to, but thousands of other listeners to interact with and learn from.
So yes, I would have to say that podcasts are particularly useful for learning new player tactics and strategies, and with more support for podcast creators coming in, the landscape is only going to grow. All you have to do is take a look around the web and find the podcast that best suits you as an individual. Whether that’s an iGaming podcast, a podcast for console players, or a podcast for mobile players, the options are out there just waiting for you to put in your headphones and click ‘Play’.
