Simon Marlow, long-serving presenter and station manager at BFBS, has died.
He passed away in hospital in London on Friday 27 June.
Simon joined the British Forces Broadcasting Service in 2007, initially as a freelance presenter before taking on permanent roles in production and management across multiple locations.
Before BFBS, Simon had a varied career in UK commercial radio, including spells at Radio City, 2-TEN, Chiltern Radio and Classic FM. He first started in broadcasting in 1986.
Ben Chapman, CEO of BFBS, said: “Simon was always a bright force of nature in any setting… He made a difference.”
Simon spent time on assignment in Afghanistan, Cyprus, Brunei, Germany, the Falklands and Northern Ireland. But it was Gibraltar that became his adopted home, where he led the local BFBS station through the pandemic and laid plans to retire nearby in Spain.
His work at BFBS combined his deep love of music with a commitment to connecting armed forces communities around the world.
Chapman added: “We send our heartfelt condolences to Simon’s family and friends… and to his team in Northern Ireland, his many listeners and colleagues across the BFBS world.”
