Two new DAB radio multiplexes are set to launch this autumn, bringing dozens of additional radio services to listeners across West and South London.
City West Digital, covering West London, and South of the River Digital, covering South London, will each host up to 25 stations on their respective networks.
The launch follows changes to an earlier small-scale DAB trial service operating in Central London, which will now become the North London licence area. Combined, the three multiplexes are expected to cover the vast majority of households within the M25.
Paul Boon, General Manager of both City West Digital and South of the River Digital Radio, described the opportunity as a significant development for digital broadcasting in the capital. “This is a fantastic opportunity for online radio, DSP licensed services and others, to reach London’s millions,” he said. “The scale of coverage is phenomenal.”
The City West Digital multiplex is expected to cover 2.8 million people, while South of the River Digital will serve up to 3.2 million. One of the key transmission sites will be the Ten Degrees building in Croydon, which rises 44 storeys and overlooks much of South London.
A total of nine transmitters will form part of the two new multiplexes.
Interested stations can apply to join the network through the dedicated websites at southoftheriver.digital and dabradio.london.
Applications to join either multiplex must be submitted by the end of July 2025.
